The Platypus is found in the eastern part of
Australia and also Tasmania.

This animal is a mammal that is semi aquatic. The Platypus is one of
the few mammals that do not give birth. Instead they give birth to live
young.
The Platypus is a bizarre looking animal can be described as having a
tail like a beaver and a bill like a duck. This animal is one of the few
mammals that are venous. In fact, the male Platypus can deliver venom
that can cause much pain in humans. The venom is delivered from a spur
on the hind foot.
The Platypus has unique features and it is an iconic symbol in
Australia. It is so well known in Australia that it has been a mascot at
national events and it even appears on the twenty cent coin in
Australia.
In fairly recent history, the Platypus was valued and hunted for its
fur. At this time, it is now protected from hunters.
There are breeding
programs that have been established to promote the Platypus but it has
only had limited success. This animal is also vulnerable to pollution.
Even so, the Platypus is not in immediate danger of extinction.
The Platypus has a flat and broad tail that is covered with dense fur
that is brown. This fur traps air that helps keep it warm. The body of
the Platypus is also covered with dense brown fur.
It is interesting
that the Platypus has a tail that is used to store fat reserves. Its
feet are webbed and its snout is rubbery and large.
The Platypus' snout is not exactly like a bird's beak. Its snout is
actually a sensory organ and its mouth is on the underside of the snout.
When the Platypus becomes disturbed, it will give a low growl and
other types of sound. As you can see, the Platypus is an unusual animal.
