Funny Animals - The Echidna
The echidna has been referred to as the illogical mammal. This is
because many people are confused about what an echidna is. They have
been confused with a hedgehog and also a porcupine. The echidna is a
spiny anteater. It is much different from other animals and has confuses
scientists and researchers to this day. This animal has survived since
prehistoric times in its current form. While other animals have become
extinct, the echidna has managed to survive.

This is a unique animal because it is one of only two mammals where
the females lay eggs. The other one is the Platypus from Australia.
The echidna lives in rough habitat. It usually lives in rough scrub
land.
The echidna is not a social animal. It tends to stay by itself and
minds its own business as a solitary animal. Depending on the time of
year and the type of food source it has at its disposable, it may be
active during the day, evening, or a combination of both.
There are two varieties of the echidna. One is the short beaked
echidna and the other one is the long beaked echidna. The long beaked
version has more visible spines and less fur than the short beaked
version.
The echidna has a nose that is long and is sometimes referred
to as a beak. it has small eyes and a small face.
The echidna spends much of its time searching for food. Similar to an
anteater, it doesn't have teeth and uses its long sticky tongue to catch
ants, earthworms, and termites. It uses its nostrils found at the top of
the beak to help find its meals.
The echidna is one of the oldest species of animal in the world.
However, this is an elusive animal that still leaves scientists with a
lot of questions.
The echidna is definitely an interesting animal! |
